Author description

Alice Walker was born in Eatonton, Georgia, and is an award-winning novelist, poet and writer of essays. She is best known for her novel The Color Purple, an international bestseller that won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and was subsequently filmed by Steven Spielberg.
