Fish'n chips:The great New Zealand feed

Author(s): Kevyn Male

Cooking & Food

Celebrating the much loved Kiwi culinary tradition of fish 'n' chips, the author recalls his Dalmatian grandfather and a heritage of fish 'n' chips and sketches the early history of fish 'n' chips in New Zealand. He tells how the English 'chippie was transplanted to these shores, giving way in its turn to takeaway joints that sell sushi and crab sticks alongside the standard packet of fish 'n' chips. Author/photographer Kevyn Male has travelled all over new Zealand photographing fish 'n' chip shops, chatting to the locals and sampling their wares. Everyone gets a mention: from the workers to the catchers and, of course, the customers. You'll find plenty of photos of proud shop owners and customers chowing down on the beat Kiwi tucker. Each photo features a short humorous caption. The cooking section features recipes that will inspire many to have a go making beer batter, whitebait fritters and tartare sauce at home.
