Audubon Bird Journal: Specialty Journal - Bird
Author(s): Galison
Galison's Birder's Journal is a top-bound, reporter-style journal that's been field-tested by birders on the go. The journal's 112 pages include 9 colour lithographs of birds by John James Audubon from the collection of the New York Public Library. There are also quotations about nature and plenty of room for field observations and sketches. A lay-flat binding makes the journal easy to use; a black elastic band is a good placeholder or keeps the journal firmly closed. End papers show bird eggs that are from coloured lithographs c. 1900. There is also a list of current species names for those that have been revised since Audubon labled his paintings. Rounded corners and a cloth binding are nice touches. The colourful bird images are reproduced from hand-colored lithographs from John James Audubon's The Birds of America, published in New York and Philadelphia 1840-45.
