NZ Fiction

Three storytellers; three different angles on the story. Adrian, a percussionist and an obsessive, is enamoured with Cara. Michael, a psychotherapist who is married to Cara, is stalked by Vincent, a difficult client. Cara is flattered by AdrianÃÂùs interest and drawn to his world, but as she tells her tale, thereÃÂùs a twist... An adroit and entertaining literary thriller. This sparkling second novel by the highly regarded author of The Thirteenth Life of Frank Finnigan revolves around three main characters who each narrate the novelâÃÂÃÂs three sections. Adrian is a musician in a percussion group, heâÃÂÃÂs a bit of an obsessive; music is his life, and he is becoming enamoured with Cara, who is married. An affair looms. Michael is CaraâÃÂÃÂs husband. HeâÃÂÃÂs a psychotherapist and a thinker, a bit of a bore, it seems; he has a difficult client called Vincent, who is stalking him. ThereâÃÂÃÂs a threat of danger in the air. Cara herself is flattered by AdrianâÃÂÃÂs attentions and is drawn to the music, the dancing and the sheer vitality of the world he inhabits. ItâÃÂÃÂs while Cara is telling her story that the novel produces an unexpected twist. A simple story becomes complicated. Violence suddenly explodes, and a big surprise is revealed. Things have definitely not been at all that they seemed. As the reader we find ourselves reviewing what weâÃÂÃÂve read; were there any cluest Rebekah Palmer tells a technically adroit story with a thriller twist. Rhythm is an entertaining example of the literary thriller genre.
