This publication enhances the profile of one of TVNZ's flagship programmes of the same name. 13 one-hour documentary episodes will screen during prime-time viewing. The historical framework was created for the TV series by high-profile historians, such as Professor Anne Salmond, Dr Ranginui Walker, Dr Claudia Orange and Professor Erik Olssen, in conjunction with those from the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. This series has taken over five years to produce and has been given a multi-million dollar production budget. There will also be an interactive website, a DVD and curriculum-linked school resources.
