New Zealand's Top Tracks

Author(s): Mark Pickering

NZ Non Fiction

Since Mark Pickerings' bestselling New Zealand's Top Ten Tracks was published, the Department of Conservation has introduced a scheme incorporating the most popular walking tracks as 'Great Walks'. They are: the Waikaremoana, the Tongariro Crossing, the Abel Tasman, the Heaphy, the Routeburn, the Kepler and the Rakiura. This new book, New Zealand's Top Tracks, is Top Ten Tracks remodelled to fall into line with the DoC programme. The Milford Track is also included; while it is not yet classified as a 'Great Walk', it may become one in the future, and information about it is certainly in demand from tourists and New Zealanders alike. As with Top Ten Tracks, each walk is described in detail; how to get there, how long it will take, when is the best time to go and what you will see. Also included are maps and information about side tracks and other activities such as fishing and swimming. The Matemateaonga, St James and Greenstone-Caples walks, previously found in Top Ten Tracks are covered in Mark's other book, 101 Great Tramps, a more comprehensive guide to the smaller tracks around New Zealand.
