New Zealand's five subantarctic island groups were the last discovered and are the most isolated of out country's territories. In 1986 the islands were declared National Nature Reserves and in 1998 they were given international recognition as New Zealand's third World Heritage Area, giving them the highest possible conservation status. Most people will never see, in person, the beauty and wonder of our subantarctic islands.

This book allows us to wander, ponder and explore these environments and see their fascinating inhabitants, without disturbing or disrupting the fine ecological balances that exist there.
