Sludging Through the Sewers: Toby Tucker

Author(s): Valerie Wilding

Children Fiction

The smell was getting to me. If it ponged here, I wondered how much worse the stink would be where a drain emptied into the sewer. I'm not giving up, though. No darkness, no stink will stop me treasure-hunting. At last I knew what Damon meant when he said a sewer rat would get the earring. They weren't animals at all. They were people who searched the sewers for treasure, just like me. "Yes," I said proudly. "I'm a sewer rat." Titus, the slave, wants to find treasure in the sewers of Rome. If he finds enough, he'll be able to buy his freedom. When his master's son, the whining Marcus, finds out about his plans, he forces Titus to take him along too. And then they get caught in the current and drift out to sea...Will Titus get Marcus back safely?
